Katie Silcox
Vibrant yogini, Katie was taught yoga in south India, in the home of the quietly famous yogis A.G. and Indra Mohan, authors of Yoga for Body Breath and Mind, and two of Krishnamacharya's last students. Katie brings an original mix of classical yoga, Tantric practices, and Southern-belle enthusiasm to her students.
In 2006 she met her teacher and mentor, Rod Stryker, and has been initiated into the 5000+ year old Himalayan tradition that includes the lineage of master teachers such as Swami Rama, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, and Bengali Baba. Rod's style of yoga, known as Para Yoga, blends the three rivers of Tantra Hatha Yoga, Ayurveda and the Yoga Sutras into one comprehensive study. Through this wisdom, Katie specializes in helping students create a personalized practice based on their physical, energetic, mental, emotional and spiritual needs. She continues to study under Rod, and is close to completing her Para Yoga certification which takes many years of diligent study and a commitment to a daily mantra japa, meditation and asana practice. Recently, she had the honor of assisting Rod at the 2009 Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco.
Katie is the Editor in Chief and Lead Writer for FitEngine Magazine, out of New York City. She has published a variety of articles on health and meditation for a variety of publications. She currently teaches at Mountain Yoga and Piedmont Yoga, in Oakland. She also leads retreats and workshops on the east coast and abroad, in both Spanish and English.
Motivated to help expand the knowledge of the traditional practices of hands-on-healing through bodywork, herbs, dietary guidelines and lifestyle choices, Katie is currently pursuing her Ayurvedic Practitioner’s certification with The California College of Ayurveda, under Devi Mueller, the President of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association. Katie will be a full-fledged Ayurvedic Health Counselor by the end of next year!
More info on her upcoming classes, workshops, retreats, and articles can be found at her YogaBhavana.
Katie has written for many clients including The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), Get There.com, Suite 101, Women of Grace and Power, Idea Box Marketing, Vibrational Living, and The Global Healing Center. She has also ghost-written several books on health and alternative healing methods.
